From time to time, I receive questions from my clients asking how to take better photographs. Since I have the best clients in the world, I want to give a little back to them by sharing some of my favorite photo techniques. Check back often and enjoy!
One of my main goals in photographing people is to take images that tell a story. In essence, a photograph is a story.
Look at the photo below. This beautiful couple has been married for 60+ years, and they love each other more and more each day that they spend together. Their relationship is the type that people write stories about.
I really wanted to provide this family with a portrait that told the story of their undying love for each other. That is when I thought of this.
Sure- I could have spent the whole time taking photos of them posing with 84 year old smiles...
Or... I could capture something that was truly meaningful- the embrace of their hands.
Their worn, tired, calloused, aged.... beautiful hands.
This photo speaks more than any pose ever could.
So, next time that you are out taking photos, take the time to stop and search for the small details that tell stories, not for that perfect pose. You will find that your photo albums will be filled with photographs that are truly meaningful. Now and Forever.
